Yoga, A Sanskrit Word, Means “Union”
Yoga supports the detoxification process by increasing circulation, compressing and twisting internal organs, and encouraging relaxation. Muscular contraction will stimulate lymphatic flow. Inverted poses use gravity to drain the lymphatic system and stimulate the flow of new blood to the liver and kidneys. Twisting poses and forward bends promote good digestion and elimination by compressing digestive organs squeezing out impurities. Restorative poses can activate the para-sympathetic nervous system, the relaxation response. The parasympathetic nervous system provides deep relaxation and counteracts the release of stress hormones like cortisol, which can slow down the detox process.
Postures, breathing and meditation form the core of yoga. All of these aim to bring your mind, body, and spirit in harmony with each other. The root cause of many diseases lies in an imbalance in your system. Regular practice of pranayama and meditation help to restore the balance and bring a sense of inner peace and purpose. When you practice yoga, the physical benefits often pale in comparison to the improvements in the mind, such as freedom from anger, greater creativity and better communication.
